Laon isn't well known - but it deserves to be. This town, on a hilltop site above the plains of north-east France, is a beautiful and interesting city. Its Gothic cathedral is one of the earliest in France, with a delicacy of style and transparence of execution rarely surpassed in later work. We'll also see the town's original weights and measures, and hear about the vineyards that made Laon's monasteries some of the richest in the country.
