Imperial and Baroque Rome are well known. This tour looks at a less celebrated period - Rome of the Middle Ages, from Constantine's recognition of Christianity to the beginning of the Renaissance. We'll see marvellous mosaics in some out-of-the-way churches, and even see what St Peter's and St John Lateran looked like before the baroque architects got hold of them. We'll even see a medieval house which reuses classical Roman ruins. This is a tour for you if you like back streets, tiny churches, dim light and mystery. Lots of walking involved!
